If necessary, change the setting and install the appropriate fuse as described in the operating instructions for the P580 HPLC Pump. |

MSV You can connect an MSV-6 Motorized Switching Valve on the pump's rear panel; for example, for column switching. Tip: Do not substitute any other motorized switching valve for the MSV-6 motorized switching valve! I/O Connection The digital I/O connector supplies three relay outputs. The Operable Out relay output is closed when the HPLC pump is not ready to operate; that is, in case of an error or if the instrument is turned off. Pressure Output (PRESSURE) The P580 Pump provides an analog output for recording the operating pressure of the pump. The pressure output is set to 2 mV/bar. You may connect a device for monitoring the pump pressure; for example, an UCI Universal Chromatography Interface. (For more information, refer to Practical Tips for Device Control Recording the Pump Pressure in the User Help section.) No special settings required. |
Software Installation
Install the Device Driver in the Chromeleon Server Configuration. (For more information about the program, refer to Software Installation and Communication The Server Configuration Program.)
Start the Chromeleon server.
Start the Chromeleon Server Configuration program.
Add the pump to the timebase. Select Add Device on the Edit or context menu, and then select Dionex from the Manufacturers list box and P580 Pump from the Devices list box.
The following settings are required:
On the General tab page, select a free COM port. Verify that the Demo Mode is disabled.
On the Head Type & Limits tab page, specify the used pump head type and determine the flow rate and system pressure limits.
On the Solvents tab page, determine the number and names of the solvents delivered by the pump.
On the Relays tab page, click a check box to enable or disable the corresponding relay. .
The Error Levels tab page classifies the severity of any errors that occur. It is generally not necessary to change the default settings.
To control the P580 HPLC pump connect, the P580FULL.pan (pump only) or the HPLC.pan (P580 as part of an HPLC system) Control Panel in the Chromeleon client to the corresponding timebase.
Application
The automatic pre-compression control of the Dionex P580 Pump considers the varying compressibility of the different solvents. Automatic pre-compression can also be used for unknown solvents. Use the following component types:
For low-pressure gradient pumps (LPG): Automatic (Also, refer to Reference Information %B, %C, %D (Solvent Components) in the User Help section)
For high-pressure gradient pumps (HPG): Custom (+ Learn and Freeze in the Reference Information section.)
(For more information, refer to Practical Tips for Device Control Setting Automatic Pre-Compression in the User Help section.)
For program examples regarding pump control, refer to Practical Tips for Device Control Pump and Flow Control in the User Help section.
Troubleshooting
For a list of all error messages that might appear in Chromeleon, refer to the Error Levels tab page in the Server Configuration program.
