	The autosampler was tested with firmware version 2.15. Note: The "Thermo Surveyor AS" model can be controlled by the Thermo Surveyor Plus Autosampler driver if firmware version 2.15 or later is installed.

What is required?

License:	Timebase Class 1
Connection:	A free Ethernet port A free COM port Ethernet LAN cable, which is shipped from Thermo Scientific with the autosampler Dionex Synchronization Cable Surveyor Plus (Dionex part no.: 8914.0163) to enable injection synchronization. Also refer to Connecting the Synchronization Cable below. Note: The System Interconnect Cable supplied by Thermo Scientific for all Surveyor Plus modules is not required when running the system under Chromeleon control. Disconnect the cable if attached to the system and verify that the Start and Stop inputs are not connected when running the Surveyor Plus system under Chromeleon control. Otherwise, Chromeleon will not be able to perform synchronization between modules.
Windows Firewall Settings:	For the Windows Firewall settings that are required for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, respectively, refer to Chromeleon and Windows Firewall.
Control Panel:	To control the instrument, use the Thermo_Surveyor_Plus_Autosampler.pan from the Dionex Templates\Panels\LC_Other folder in the Browser.

Hardware Installation

Device Connection:

Connect the autosampler to an Ethernet switch or hub using the Ethernet LAN cable shipped with the instrument.
Configure the TCP/IP network settings: Enter the Subnet Mask (255.255.0.0) and IP address (172.16.yy.zz) to be used. Note that the addresses 172.16.0.0 and 172.16.255.255 are reserved for special purposes and therefore cannot be used.

Device Settings:

If necessary, use the rotary switches located on the rear panel to change the module ID (and thus the IP address) of the autosampler:

The range of values is from 01–99. The default value is 01. The value 00 is reserved for special service settings.

After changing the rotary switch settings, the autosampler must be powered OFF and ON again to allow the changes to take effect.

Note:

When connecting more than one Surveyor Plus autosampler via Ethernet, make sure to configure each autosampler with a different module ID.

Connecting the Synchronization Cable:

The Dionex synchronization cable is an optional accessory that allows improved synchronization between the autosampler and Chromeleon. The cable has three connectors for connecting the Surveyor Plus autosampler with the Surveyor Plus LC pump, and the COM port on the Instrument Controller PC.

Connect the cable as follows:

Plug the autosampler connector (marked "A/S") of the synchronization cable into the left-most 8-pin socket at the rear panel of the autosampler (see figure below).
Plug the pump connector (marked "Pump" of the synchronization cable into the left-most 8-pin socket at the rear panel of the Surveyor Plus pump.
Attach the 9-pin D-Sub (female) connector of the synchronization cable into the serial port of the PC. If the PC does not provide a serial port, use a serial interface card (Meilhaus)instead. Note:

Connection via UCI COM port is not possible.

Software Installation

In the Chromeleon Server Configuration, add the Driver to a timebase. For details, see Adding, Configuring or Deleting Devices. After you add the driver to the timebase, the Configuration dialog or wizard opens automatically.
On the General tab page specify the following settings:
- In the Module ID box, type or select the unit ID value for the instrument. The module ID must correspond with the value set by the rotary switches at the rear panel of the autosampler. If you need to change the switch settings, see instruction in section Device Settings above.
  Note: The module ID is required to specify the network IP address of the autosampler. The IP address is in the format 172.16.x.111, whereby 'x' must correspond with the module ID of the autosampler.
- Click the arrow next to the Inject Sync box to select the COM port to which the Dionex synchronization cable is connected with the PC.
On the Signals tab page, the following check boxes must be selected, if the autosampler is operated with a Surveyor Plus pump:
- Pump Ready Input Active High,
- Inject Hold Release Input Active High and
- Inject Output Active High.
On the Configuration tab page, specify settings as required.

For information about the settings on a page, click the Help button or press F1.

Tip:

The only supported configuration is a Surveyor Plus pump in combination with a Surveyor Plus AS. It is not possible to control either module alone, or in combination with Accela modules.
