Autosampler

Autosamplers allow routine analyses to be automated. Depending on the autosampler type and model, a number of samples can be prepared and then processed (injected) in a Batch (automatic batch processing).

When operating an autosampler, it is important to understand the difference between sample loading and sample injection.

Loading the Sample

The autosampler draws the volume to be injected from a sample vial or well plate and loads it into the sample loop, which is connected to the injection valve. During sample loading, solvent flow is directed from the pump to the column, bypassing the sample loop.

Injecting the Sample

To inject the sample, the injection valve is switched, directing the solvent flow from the pump through the sample loop to the column.
