Kontron 32X/52X and 420/422 Pumps: Installation

Hardware Installation

Device Connection:	Use a special RS-232 cable (see Kontron Cable in the Appendix of the Hardware Installation section) to connect the Kontron pumps.
Device Settings:	Not required.
Restrictions:	No restrictions known.

Software Installation

Install the Device Driver in the Chromeleon Server Configuration. (For more information about the program, refer to Software Installation and Communication The Server Configuration Program.)

Start the Chromeleon server.
Start the Server Configuration program.
Add the pump to the selected timebase. Select Add Device on the Edit or context menu, and then select Kontron from the Manufacturers list box and Pumps 32X and 52X (or 420 Pump) from the Devices list box.
The following settings are required:

On the General tab page for the Kontron 32X/52X Pumps (or on the General tab page for the Kontron 420 and 422 Pumps), select the COM port to which each pump is connected. In addition, disable the Demo Mode.

On the Limits tab page for the Kontron 32X/52X Pumps, specify the limits for the flow rate and the system pressure. Please note: For the Kontron 420 and 422 Pumps, this tab page is called Head Type and Limits. Select the head type installed and specify the limits for the flow rate and the system pressure.

For 32X and 52X Pumps only: On the Solvents tab page, specify the number and name(s) of the solvents delivered by the pump.

Tip:

Reduce the number of eluents from 3 (default) to 2 for the 322 Pump.

The Error Levels tab page classifies the severity of any errors that occur. It is generally not necessary to change the default settings.

To control the Kontron pumps, connect the KONT325.pan or KONT420Gradient.pan Control Panel in the Chromeleon client to the corresponding timebase.

Application

Tip:

When the PC is powered up, incorrect characters may be generated. If this occurs, an error message is displayed. To reset the Kontron instruments:

Start your PC.
Wait until booting is complete.
Start your instruments.
Start the server application.
