Installing and Controlling Third-Party Devices
Agilent 1200 HPLC System: Installation

Device Type:

HPLC system

Device Driver:

Agilent or HP: 1200 HPLC System

Licenses:

  • Timebase Class 2 + 3D Data Acquisition to allow acquisition of 3D data with the 1200 LC Diode Array Detector.

  • Note: Without the 3D Data Acquisition license, the DAD can be operated as a multiple wavelength detector (MWD).

  • Fraction Collection to allow use of a Fraction Collector.

Supported Hardware Options:

For details on supported modules and firmware versions refer to: Supported Hardware Options.

Software Requirements:

The following Chromeleon version is recommended, when using an Agilent G1364 fraction collector:

Chromeleon 6.80 DU10b or higher.

Restrictions:

  • One Chromeleon server can control a maximum of two 1200 HPLC Systems.

  • No support of rotated plates and rack layouts.

Control Panel:

The following panel is provided in the Dionex Templates\Panels\LC_Other folder in the Browser:

Agilent_1200.pan

The panel also provides functions for controlling the fraction collector.

Hardware Installation

Device Connection:

Software Installation

Install the Device Driver in the Chromeleon Server Configuration:

  1. First, turn on all modules of the 1200 HPLC System.

     Tip:

The well-plate sampler and the fraction collector must be completely initialized before they can be connected in Chromeleon. Initialization takes approximately two minutes. Also, make sure that the door of the sampler/fraction collector is closed; otherwise, the initialization process will not start.

  1. Start the Chromeleon server.

  2. Start the Server Configuration program. (For more information about the program, refer to  The Server Configuration Program.)

  1. Add the 1200 HPLC System to the timebase. For details about how to add timebases and device drivers to the Server Configuration, refer to Adding, Configuring or Deleting Devices. When you add a driver to the timebase, the configuration dialog or wizard opens automatically. For information about the settings, click the Help button on a page or press F1.

  2. On the Components tab, enter the TCP/IP address of the instrument and click Scan CAN to identify the installed modules.

  3. After you have defined settings, click OK to exit the HP 1200 HPLC System dialog box. The server configures and automatically reconnects all HP 1200 modules.

  4. To control the 1200 HPLC System, connect the Agilent_1200.pan Control Panel in the Chromeleon client to the corresponding timebase.

 Note:

The Chromeleon Fraction Collection driver is not required to operate the Agilent fraction collector.

Troubleshooting

Problem: Configuration error after system upgrade

The following error may occur if new modules are added to an existing 1200 HPLC system configuration:

Error: Driver 'HP 1200 HPLC System': Selected port 'HP 1200 HPLC System\Ag1200InjectState' does not exist!

To resolve the error, proceed as follows:

The problem should now be resolved.
