Agilent 7673 and 7683 Autosamplers: Dual Inject

To double the sample throughput, the 7673 or 7683 GC autosamplers support dual injection, allowing you to inject two samples simultaneously from different sample positions. Make sure that the following conditions are met:

Hardware Installation

Devices:

Columns:

Two

Injectors:

Front and Rear Injector

Detectors:

Detector A and Detector B

 Note:

Usually, identical columns, injectors, and detectors are used.

Device
Connection:

In addition to the standard cabling for the HP 5890 (see  HP 5890: Installation) and the 7673 autosampler (see  Agilent 7673 Autosampler on the HP 5890 GC Using the HP G1512 Controller-Box or  Agilent 7673 Autosampler at HP 5890 Using the HP 18594 Controller Box), the injection signal must be sent to the UCI.

Settings in the Server Configuration

For information about the program, refer to Software Installation and Communication  The Server Configuration Program.

Timebases:

For data acquisition with two detectors, two timebases are required: one controlled timebase, for example, Timebase 1, and one non-controlled timebase, for example, Timebase 2. To create the timebases, install the following Device Drivers:

 Timebase 1:

  • 7673A GC Autosampler

  • HP 5890 Gas Chromatograph

Specify which options are installed. For installation information, refer to:

Agilent 7673 Autosampler on the HP 5890 GC Using the HP G1512 Controller Box

Agilent 7673 Autosampler on the HP 5890 GC Using the HP 18594 Controller Box.

 Timebase 2:

Open the Signal Configuration dialog box by double-clicking the corresponding signal on the Signals tab page. Assign the signal the channel of UCI Universal Chromatography Interface to which the analog cable of the second detector is connected. Name the signal in the Signal Name field according to the selected detector type; for example, FID_2.

Under Inject Port on the General tab page, select the input of the UCI to which the injection signal is assigned. Enter a name; for example, HP7673_Inject.

Signal
Assignment:

Timebase 1 (HP 5890)

Signal GC_1 « UCI100_CHANNEL1 «

Signal GC_2 « UCI100_CHANNEL2 «

(Required for detector control)

Timebase 2 (Integrator Driver)

Signal INT_1 « UCI100_CHANNEL3 «

Device - HP 5890

Signal from detector A

Signal from detector B
