Installing and Controlling Third-Party Devices
Agilent 7673 Autosampler on the HP 5890 GC Using the HP G1512 Controller Box
Instead of the old HP 18594 controller box, which is no longer distributed (since mid-1997), Agilent ships the 7673 autosampler with the new HP G1512 controller box. The new controller box (HP G1512) is capable of emulating the HP 18594 controller box in stand-alone operation. The controller box of the system already contains all required plug-in cards, so that no conversion is possible. On the rear panel of the box, set the DIP switches as follows:
Setting the DIP Switches
Left DIP switch: Set all switches to 0, except the switch at the far right to 1.
Right DIP switch: Set all switches to 0.
When you have set the switches, turn the controller box off and on again.
Connecting the Cable
Use a null modem cable (9-pin to 9-pin; Dionex part no. 8914.0103) to connect the RS-232 output of the RS-232 card with the serial interface on the server PC.
Connect one end of the cable with the RS-232 output on the controller box.
Connect the other end of the cable with the serial COM port cable of the PC.
Tip:
Please check whether the sampler is connected to an HP 5890 GC. In this case, remove the AGP remote cable.
Server Configuration:
Add the Device Driver for controlling the autosampler. Add the instrument to the timebase. Select Add Device on the Edit or context menu, and then select Agilent (or HP) from the Manufacturers list box and 7673A GC Autosampler from the Devices list box. On the Components tab page, select the Standalone Controller check box.
Tips:
If you use an Agilent autosampler, the program files must be at least 2 minutes long to allow the autosampler sufficient time until the next injection.
If two injectors are installed, the dual inject option is enabled automatically. Both injectors can then inject simultaneously from two different sample positions. For more information, refer to Practical Tips for Device Control Injecting Two GC Samples Simultaneously (7673 and 7683 Autosamplers) in the User Help section.
For detailed installation instructions, refer to the manual for the instrument.
