Installing Dionex Devices
UVD 170S and UVD 340S HPLC Detectors: Installation

Hardware Installation

Device Connection:

Fig.: Rear panel

 Tip:

Before connecting the instrument for the first time, check the voltage selector (2) for the correct line voltage setting. If necessary, change the setting and install the appropriate fuse as described in the operating instructions for the UVD 170S and UVD 340S Detectors.

The UVD 170S and UVD 340S detectors are controlled by Chromeleon via a separate PC plug-in card. First, install the card in the PC (see  Installing the M68 PC Interface Card for the PDA). Data transfer is then performed digitally via a special connector cable.

The Remote Input provides a digital interface that can be used in Chromeleon; for example, to synchronize the Inject signal of an Autosampler or manual injection valve.

Device Settings:

 Tip:

If the M68 card is operated in combination with network cards or if several UVD 340S or UVD 170S detectors are installed, verify that the I/O address settings of all PC cards are unique. If necessary, change the I/O addresses of newly added cards.

Restrictions:

  • Only two Photodiode Array Detectors are permitted on one server PC.

  • This instrument is not supported under Windows Vista or later.

Software Installation

Install the Device Driver in the Chromeleon Server Configuration. (For more information about the program, refer to Software Installation and Communication  The Server Configuration Program.)

  1. Start the Chromeleon server.

  2. Start the Chromeleon Server Configuration program.

  3. Add the detector to the timebase. Select Add Device on the Edit or context menu, and then select Dionex from the Manufacturers list box and UVD170S UV-VIS Detector (or UVD340S PDA) from the Devices list box.

  4. The following settings are required:

On the General tab page, select the port address of the installed M68 interface card. Verify that the Demo Mode is disabled.

On the Signals tab page, you may make special settings for the separate signals.

On the Inputs tab page, you may enable the Remote Input of the detector.

The Error Levels tab page classifies the severity of any errors that occur. It is generally not necessary to change the default settings.

  1. To control the UVD 170S or UVD 340S detector, connect the UVD170-2Chl.pan or UVD340LARGE.pan (detector only) or the HPLC.pan (detector as part of an HPLC system) Control Panel in the Chromeleon client to the corresponding timebase.

Application

The User Help section provides an overview of the different commands that are supported for the detectors; refer to Commands for Controlling Dionex Devices  Dionex Detectors and  Dionex UVD 170/340 UV/PDA Detectors.

For different program examples for the UVD 170/UVD 340 detectors, refer to Practical Tips for Device Control  Detector Control in the User Help section.

Troubleshooting

For a list of all error messages that might appear in Chromeleon, refer to the Error Levels tab page in the Server Configuration program.
