License:

Timebase Class 1

Connection:

USB Connection

A free USB port and the following cable is required:

  • USB cable (Dionex part no. 6911.0002) to connect the device to the server PC via the USB port.

Pump Connection

Depending on the pump type used with the detector, the following cables are required:

ESA HPLC pumps Model 582/584

  • Event cable (shipped with the detector)

UltiMate 3000 pumps

- UltiMate 3000RS/SD/BM/BX pumps:

  • 6-pin Mini-DIN signal cable (Dionex part no. 6000.1004)

  • Required pump firmware version: 2.20 or higher

- UltiMate 3000 LPG-3400XRS pump:

  • Synchronization cable, Dionex part no. 6043.0003 (shipped with the detector)

Detailed instructions for connecting the detector with an LPG-3400XRS pump are also provided in the Operating Instructions of the pump.

- All other UltiMate 3000 pumps:

  • Shutdown cable (Dionex part no. 6035.0004).

  • Required pump firmware version: 3.05 or higher

For details on installing the cables, refer to

ESA Coulochem III Electrochemical Detector: Interfacing the detector with an UltiMate 3000 Pump

    folder in the Browser.

Hardware Installation

Safety Connection:

 Caution:

Dionex recommends connecting the detector to the ESA Model 582/584 HPLC pump via an event cable, so that if an error is registered in the pump, the cells will be turned off to avoid damage.

  • Insert the event cable plug into the pump EXT.CONTROL connector (upper left-hand side on the back panel).

  • Connect the orange and yellow wires to the + and - terminals on the CELL OFF I/O Connections on the Coulochem III.

  • Connect the black wire (common) to the GND terminal on the I/O Connections on the Coulochem III.

To set external events on the Model 582 HPLC pump:

  • While the pump is powered on, press the CE key to return to the initial screen.

  • Press FUNC key repeatedly until you come to the following screen:

    0.0        EXT-S
    Input     0  -  3

  • Input "2" and then press ENTER.

  • Press CE to return to the initial screen.

This operation sets the Event 2 of the pump's Relay 2 (the orange and yellow wires) to present a contact closure in the event of a pump error. Now when a pump error occurs, the Coulochem III will turn the cells off. After the pump has been fixed, the cells can be turned back on.

Device Connection:

First, install the Chromeleon software, and then connect the instrument to the USB port on the Chromeleon server PC.

  1. The Windows Found New Hardware Wizard starts.

  2. Complete the wizard, selecting these options:

When asked if Windows can search for software, select No, not this time.

When asked to choose an installation type, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced).

When asked to specify the search options, select Include this location in the search.

  1. Click the Browse button and specify the following search location: C:\Chromel\bin\DDK\V1\Drivers\Dionex\CouloChemIII.

  2. When the wizard is finished, the device will be listed in the Device Manager under Dionex USB I/O Devices.

Also refer to Connecting Dionex Devices via USB.

Software Installation

  1. In the Chromeleon Server Configuration, add the driver to a timebase. For details, see Adding, Configuring or Deleting Devices. After you add the driver, the configuration dialog opens automatically.

  2. On each properties tab page, select the desired settings. For information about the settings on a page, click the Help button on a page or press F1.
