Installing and Controlling Thermo Scientific Devices
Finnigan/TSP UV3000 Detector: Installation

Device Type:

Four-channel UV detector

Device Driver:

Thermo Scientific: TSP UV3000 (digital data acquisition)

 Tip:

Dionex recommends using the driver for digital data acquisition to control the TSP UV3000. The TSP UV3000 (analog data acquisition) driver is provided, also. Note that with this driver, the noise is considerably higher during analog signal acquisition.

Hardware Options
Supported:

 Note:

The 206 UV Detector from Linear Instruments corresponds to the TSP UV3000 Detector. The same device driver is used to control both the 206 UV Detector and the UV3000 Detector.

Restrictions:

The device driver does not support the Scan mode of the detector. Therefore, it is not possible to acquire single spectra.

What is required?

License:

Timebase Class 1

Connection:

A free RS-232 port is required on either the PC or the UCI Universal Chromatography Interface.

The following cable is required:

  • 9-pin female to 25-pin male RS cable (Dionex part no. 8914.0144A)

  • – or –

  • 25-pin female to 25-pin male (Dionex part no. 8914.0128)

For cable details, refer to  Modem Cable.

Control Panel:

Hardware Installation

Device Connection:

Use a special modem cable (for more information, refer to  Modem Cable) to connect the TSP UV3000 Detector to the PC. Or, if necessary, connect the modem cable to an RS-232 port on the UCI Universal Chromatography Interface, instead.

 Tip:

When you install the detector in Chromeleon, verify that the Start and Stop inputs are not connected. This will ensure error-free control of the device.

Device Settings:

The following settings are supported:

 Baud rate 9600

 Handshake Off

 Parity None

 Data bits 8

 Stop bits 1

Software Installation

Install the Device Driver in the Chromeleon Server Configuration. (For more information about the program, refer to Software Installation and Communication  The Server Configuration Program.)

  1. Start the Chromeleon server.

  2. Start the Server Configuration program.

  3. Add the detector to the timebase. Select Add Device on the Edit or context menu, and then select Thermo Scientific from the Manufacturers list box and TSP UV2000 (digital data acquisition) from the Devices list box.

  4. The following settings are required:

On the General tab page, select the RS-232 port. In addition, disable the Demo Mode.

On the Signals tab page, specify the channels for digital signal acquisition.

The Error Levels tab page classifies the severity of any errors that occur. It is generally not necessary to change the default settings.

  1. To control the detector, connect the TSP_UV3000.pan Control Panel in the Chromeleon client to the corresponding timebase.
