Installing and Controlling Thermo
Scientific Devices
Thermo Scientific TriPlus RSH Autosampler
What is required?
Hardware Installation
Module Settings
Prior to installing the autosampler in Chromeleon make sure that the signal cables between autosampler and GC are connected correctly. For connection details, refer to the TriPlus RSH Pre-Installation Guide and TriPlus RSH User Guide.
To connect the autosampler with the Chromeleon Server PC
First, install Chromeleon software, and then connect the autosampler to the LAN network. The TriPlus RSH autosampler is shipped with a default IP address. For information on the default IP address, refer to the TriPlus RSH Hardware Manual or check the IP address entered on the (Virtual) Handheld Controller.
Tip:
For better reliability, Thermo Fisher Scientific recommends connecting the autosampler to a separate device LAN and not to the Office LAN. Note that an additional network card is required when using a device LAN.
Detailed instructions on how to connect the autosampler to the LAN network are provided in the TriPlus RSH User Guide and the TriPlus RSH Hardware Manual provided with the device. General information on connecting modules via LAN is provided in the topic Connecting Devices via TCP/IP (LAN).
Software Installation
In the Chromeleon Server Configuration, add the Driver to a timebase. For details, see Adding, Configuring or Deleting Devices. After you add the driver, the Configuration dialog box for the autosampler opens automatically.
On each Configuration tab page, select the desired settings. For information about the settings on a page, click the Help button or press F1.
Firmware Update
If the version of firmware installed in the autosampler is not compatible with Chromeleon, for example, after a firmware upgrade on the device or a replacement with a newer model, the configuration is mismatched. When connecting a driver to a device that is not compatible, the connection is aborted due to a firmware version mismatch.
Caution:
Do not downgrade the firmware! Downgrading the firmware to a previous version may result in loss of functionality or malfunctioning of the device.
The autosampler is shipped with the most recent version of firmware at the time. When configuring an existing TriPlus RSH into a Chromeleon timebase, if the installed firmware version is below the minimum version supported by Chromeleon, Chromeleon will not be able to connect to the autosampler and an error is logged to the audit trail. Thermo Fisher Scientific recommends to upgrade to the latest firmware version. In this case, contact your Thermo Scientific Service Representative.
Note:
Before performing a firmware update, check the firmware version installed in the autosampler. The firmware version is displayed in the Commands view in the Chromeleon Client, at the Expert display filter level. For details, see The PGM Editor The Commands View.
Troubleshooting
If firmware version 2.2 is installed on the autosampler, tool changes made on the autosampler are not immediately recognized by Chromeleon. In order for the tool changes to be visible in Chromeleon it is necessary to disconnect and reconnect the instrument.
