Installing and Controlling Thermo Scientific Devices
Thermo Scientific Surveyor Plus LC Pump
Device Type: |
Quaternary low-pressure gradient pump with built-in degasser and pulse dampener. |
Device Driver: |
Thermo Scientific: Surveyor Plus Pump The pump was tested with pump firmware version 2.0 and adapter firmware version 2.00. |
Restrictions: |
The following options are not supported:
Note: The driver does not support the following pump models:
|
What is required?
License: |
Timebase Class 1 |
Device Connection: |
A free Ethernet port and the following cable are required:
Note: The System Interconnect Cable supplied by Thermo Scientific for all Surveyor Plus modules is not required when running the system under Chromeleon control. Disconnect the cable if attached to the system and verify that the Start and Stop inputs are not connected when running the Surveyor Plus system under Chromeleon control. Otherwise, Chromeleon will not be able to perform synchronization between modules. |
Network Settings: |
(Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems only) For possible network settings that may be required, refer to Chromeleon and Windows Firewall, section Network Configuration under Windows Vista and Windows 7. |
Device Settings: |
If necessary, use the rotary switches located on the rear panel to change the stack ID (and thus the IP address) of the pump: The range of values is from 01–99. The default value is 01. The value 00 is reserved for special service settings. After changing the rotary switch settings, the pump must be powered OFF and ON again to allow the changes to take effect. Note: When connecting more than one Surveyor Plus pump via Ethernet, make sure to configure each pump with a different stack ID. For detailed information, refer to the hardware manual for the pump. |
The Dionex synchronization cable is an optional accessory that allows improved synchronization between the pump and the autosampler. The cable has three connectors for connecting the Surveyor Plus autosampler with the Surveyor Plus LC pump, and the COM port on the PC. Connect the cable as follows:

|
To control the instrument, use the Thermo Surveyor_Plus_Pump.pan from the Dionex Templates\Panels\LC_Other folder in the Browser. |
Hardware Installation
Software Installation
In the Chromeleon Server Configuration, add the Driver to a timebase. For details, see Adding, Configuring or Deleting Devices. After you add the driver to the timebase, the Configuration dialog or wizard opens automatically.
On the Pump Configuration page specify the following settings:
Type or select the Stack ID value for the instrument. The stack ID (= unit ID) must correspond with the value set by the rotary switches at the rear panel of the pump. If you need to change the switch settings, see instruction in section Device Settings above.
Note: The stack ID is required to specify the network IP address of the pump. The IP address is in the format 172.16.x.141, whereby 'x' must correspond with the stack ID of the pump.
Click the Limits button to specify settings for flow rate and system pressure.
Click the Solvents button to specify the solvent settings.
Configuration Settings to Operate the Pump with a Thermo Surveyor Plus Autosampler
To operate the pump with a Thermo Surveyor Plus autosampler, select the following check boxes on the Signals tab page of the Surveyor Plus autosampler configuration:
Pump Ready Input Active High,
Inject Hold Release Input Active High and
Inject Output Active High.
Tip:
The only supported configuration is a Surveyor Plus pump in combination with a Surveyor Plus AS. It is not possible to control either module alone, or in combination with Accela modules.
