Tab Dialog Box:
General (Thermo Scientific A2D)

Use this tab page to specify the general device and hardware parameters for the A2D:

Option

Description

Name

Indicates the name under which the A2D is identified in the installation environment (see Naming Devices ...). The name is used as a prefix to channel, relay, and input names. To control the A2D via the existing Control Panels, accept the default name (A2D). If you do not accept the default name, you may have to edit the PGM Files and re-link the corresponding control of the control panel. (Also, refer to Linking a Control to a Device.)

 Note:

The device Name for the A2D must be unique within the timebase.

Simulation Mode

Use these fields to configure the A2D for regular operation (normal data acquisition) or Simulation Mode (see Demo Mode). In simulation mode, Chromeleon simulates device control without requiring the device to be physically connected to the Chromeleon Server PC.

Select the required option from the Mode drop-down list:

  • No Simulation (Off): Select this option to configure the A2D for regular operation (normal data acquisition and no simulation).

  • Sinusoidal Signal: Select this option to enable simulation mode using a sinusoidal signal. When this option is selected, Chromeleon does not connect to a physical A2D, but generates a signal internally. This signal is a sine wave with a period of 40 seconds that starts when the AcqOn command is executed. All data collection rates are supported in this mode and the period of the signal does not vary with data collection rate. Digital inputs are always inactive (High).

  • Record Simulation File: Select this option to record the signal(s) from the configured A2D channel(s) to a specified simulation file (a separate file can be recorded for each channel). Enter the name for the simulation file in the File name field on the corresponding Channel 1/2 tab pages of the A2D dialog box (the file will be a binary file and is given a .a2d extension). Raw data acquired during baseline monitoring or for a sample is written to this file (in addition to being written to the Chromeleon channel for the A2D). The simulation file is not a standard Chromeleon file format and does not include the data rate at which the data was recorded. You can set the data rate at which to replay the simulation file in the PGM file.

  • Replay Simulation File: Select this option to enable simulation mode using a previously recorded simulation file (a separate file can be replayed for each channel). Select the simulation file(s) to replay from the File name list on the corresponding Channel 1/2 tab pages of the A2D dialog box. In this mode, Chromeleon does not connect to a physical A2D device, but continually replays the recorded data in the specified simulation file(s). The data is replayed at the data rate specified in the PGM File at the time of replay. The data rate in the PGM File does not need to be the same as the data rate at which the simulation file was recorded, enabling the playback time of the data to be reduced or extended accordingly.

Serial number

(Unavailable when simulation mode is enabled.)

Enter the serial number of the A2D or select it from the drop-down list. The list contains the serial numbers of A2D devices connected to the Chromeleon Server and not already configured in a timebase. The list also includes the currently configured A2D serial number, even if it is not physically connected to the Chromeleon Server. The entered string must be numeric and 6 characters in length.
