General (6890/6850 GCs)

Specify the general device and hardware parameters, such as the device name, Demo Mode, and interface address.

Also, refer to Hardware Installation  Agilent 6890 GC and  Agilent 6850 GC.

Device Name:

Indicates the name under which the instrument is identified in the installation environment (also, see Naming Devices...). To control the instrument via the existing Control Panels, accept the default name (GC). If you do not accept the default name, you may have to edit the PGM Files and re-link the corresponding control of the control panel. (Also, refer to How to: Controlling Devices from the Control Panel  Linking a Control to a Device in the User Help section.)

 

 

Port:

Click the arrow and select the interface to which the GC is connected from the list. When you select an RS-232 interface, the Port Settings field is displayed. When you select Network, the Network Address field is displayed.

(RS-232):

The field with the gray background indicates the communication settings for the GC. Click Test to test the connection to the instrument.

 

 

Network Address
(LAN):

Enter the address under which the instrument is identified on the network. (This can be either a valid TCP/IP address or a user-defined address, such as HP6850.) Click Test to test the connection to the instrument.

 

 

Latency, ms
(LAN):

Enter the maximum time (in milliseconds) that Chromeleon waits for a response from the GC. Latencies of up to 30 s are possible. The Network port field indicates the network port (read-only).

 

 

Demo Mode:

Select Off to disable the demo mode.

Select Read to read and display data from an existing demo file instead of real data. Select the demo file from the Demo File Name drop-down list.

Select Write to save the data delivered by the detector to a demo file. Enter the (directory and) file name in the Demo File Name input field.
