Valve

Injection

This option is selected automatically if an optional 6-port or 10-port high-pressure valve is installed in the AS-DV. When selected, the valve functions as the sample injection valve.

Auxiliary

Select this option if an optional 6-port or 10-port high-pressure valve is installed and you want to use it for a function other than sample injection (for example, for bleeding sample to waste before an injection or for loading a concentrator column).

None

This option is selected automatically if an optional valve is not installed.

Label

Specifies the name used to identify the optional valve in autosampler commands. InjectionValve and AuxValve are the default labels. You can enter a different name if desired.

Default Injection Parameters

Chromeleon uses the following formula to calculate the total volume of sample delivered to the injection valve:

(Injection Volume + Delay Volume) * Flush Factor

The injection volume (typically, the loop volume) is entered in the Sequence.

Delay Volume

The volume from the tip of the sampling needle to the injection valve. The default is 125 mL.

Flush Factor

Determines how much excess sample will be flushed through the loop; expressed as a multiple of the total of the injection volume and the delay volume.

For example, if the injection volume entered in the sequence is
25 mL, the Delay Volume is 125 mL and the Flush Factor is 10, the total volume delivered to the injection valve equals
(25 + 125) * 10 = 1500 mL

 Notes:

  • If a sample volume is specified in the Program, the volume specified is delivered and this calculation is not performed.

  • The Delay Volume and Flush Factor can also be set in the program. In this case, the program settings are used, instead of the default settings selected here. Refer to Sample Preparation Options (AS-DV).

Rinse Vial Range

Specify a range of carousel vial positions that will be used to hold rinse vials. When performing a rinse, the AS-DV takes the rinse liquid from the vial in the Start Position. If the start position vial is empty, the next vial in the range is used, and so on.

Start Position: The first rinse vial position.

End Position: The last rinse vial position.

 Note:

To use another vial position for the rinse vial, enter the position in the Program.

Sample Overlap

Select this check box to enable overlap of samples. When Sample Overlap is enabled, the AS-DV starts the next sample in a sequence while data acquisition is occurring for the current sample. The AS-DV commands that occur before the EndSamplePrep command in the program are overlapped.

 Note:

For sample overlap to occur, the BeginOverlap command must also be present in the Program. Chromeleon automatically adds the BeginOverlap and EndSamplePrep commands when you use the Program Wizard to create a program (see  The Program Wizard).

The User Help section provides more information; refer to Practical Tips for Device Control: Autosampler Control  Overlapping Samples.
