Commands and Tips for Third-Party Devices
Agilent G1888 Network Headspace Sampler

The following commands and properties are available (please note that the display Filter level determines which commands and properties are displayed):

General Commands and Properties:

Command/Property

Description

Connect

Connects the device to Chromeleon.

Connected

Indicates whether the instrument is connected to Chromeleon, that is, under computer control (also, see Connect, Disconnect).

Disconnect

Disconnects the instrument from Chromeleon and activates manual control from the instrument panel.

DriverID

Unambiguous driver name (read-only).

DriverVersion

Driver version (read-only).

FirmwareVersion

Firmware version of the headspace sampler (read-only).

Manufacturer

Manufacturer of the driver (read-only).

ModelNo

Model number of the headspace sampler (read-only).

Ready

Ready indicates that the sampler is ready for operation, i.e., no Autozero started, temperature reached, no errors. NotReady indicates that the sampler is not ready for operation (read-only).

SerialNo

Serial number (read-only).

Special sampler commands

Command/Property

Description

CarrierPressure

Reports the current carrier gas pressure (read-only)

CarouselPosition

Moves the carousel to the selected position (1-12).

*.Nominal

Sets the position (1-12) the carousel is moved to by the CarouselPosition command.

*.Value

Reports the current position and current status of the carousel (read-only):

MOVING: Carousel is moving.

ERR: Error, e.g., motor encoder senses obstruction or cannot find home position, temperature is out of range.

FAIL: Component is not able to work.

LOCK: Component is disabled to protect the instrument, e.g., if another component fails.

INIT: Initializing or self test state

CurrentTrayPosition

Reports the current tray position from the instrument status (read-only).

ExtractionsPerVial

Sets the number of extractions per vial in MHE Concentration Mode.

FirstVial

Reports the location of the first vial to be analyzed by this method (read-only).

GCCycleTime

Sets the GC run time between two injections.

GCHandshake

Reports the Handshake parameters of the sampler as defined in the Chromeleon Server Configuration (read-only).

GCStatus

Reports the current GC status.
Values: Ready, Not Ready, Undetermined

GlobalReset

Resets the instrument, including the communications link, to the settings that were valid when the sampler was turned on.

Inject

Injects the sample.

InjectTime

Sets the time during which the vent valve must be open to allow the sample gas to flow into the GC.

LastVial

Reports the location of the last vial to be analyzed by this method (read-only). The number of the last vial must not be lower than the number of the first vial.

LastVialInjected

Reports the number of the last vial injected (read-only).

LoopEquilibrationTime

Sets the time during which the vent valve must be closed. This allows the analytes in the sample loop to equilibrate to the higher loop temperature and allows the pressure and flow in the loop to stabilize.

LoopFillTime

Sets the time required to fill the sample loop with gas.

LoopTemp

Sample loop temperature

*.Nominal

Sets the nominal sample loop temperature.

*.Value

Reports the current sample loop temperature (read-only).

MHEConcMode

Select On if you want to use Multi Headspace Extraction (MHE) in Concentration Mode. Select Off to perform multi extraction in single or standard mode.

Note:

In addition to setting the MHEConcMode setting to "On" or "Off", you must also select the related setting in the "Pos." column of the sample table (sequence) in the Chromeleon Browser to activate a mode:
Concentration Mode
: MHEConcMode = ON

Select different positions in the sample table for all samples to be processed.  

Standard Mode: MHEConcMode = OFF

Select the same position in the sample table for all samples to be processed.  

Single Mode: MHEConcMode = OFF

Select different positions in the sample table for all samples to be processed.  

OvenTemp

Oven temperature

*.Nominal

Sets the nominal oven temperature.

*.Value

Reports the current oven temperature (read-only).

ParIncOvenTempStep

Increases the oven temperature (OvenTemp) by that many degrees for the second vial and each subsequent vial.

ParIncVialEquilibrationStep

Increases the equilibration time (VialEquilibrationTime) by that many minutes for the second vial and each subsequent vial.

Position

Sets the vial position.

PressureUnit

Sets the pressure unit (kPa, psi or bar).

PressureValvePosition

Switches the pressurization valve position.

*.Nominal

Allows you to manually set the nominal pressurization valve position (CLOSED or OPEN).

*.Value

Reports the current pressurization valve position and status (read-only).

PressurizationEqTime

Sets the time required to reach equilibration in the vial.

PressurizationTime

Sets the time during which pressurization gas is introduced into the sample vial to build up additional pressure in the vial.

SampleLifterPosition

Allows you to manually set the sample lifter position.

UP: Raises the lift to move the sample to the injection position. DOWN: Lowers the lifter to move the sample back into the carousel.

*.Nominal

Sets the nominal sample lifter position (DOWN or UP).

*.Value

Reports the current sample lifter position and status (read-only).

SampleValvePosition

Switches the sample valve position.

*.Nominal

Allows you to manually set the nominal sample valve position (CLOSED or OPEN).

Reports the current sample valve position and status (read-only).

SequenceValvePurgeTime

Sets the time that the sample valves during the sequence run after each injection to purge the system.  

Shaking

Sets the agitation level of the oven carousel during the equilibration phase. OFF turns the shaking off.
Values: Off, Low, High

ShutterPosition

Switches the shutter position.

*.Nominal

Allows you to manually set the nominal shutter position (CLOSED, MID or OPEN).

*.Value

Reports the current shutter position and status (read-only).

SoftReset

Resets the instrument to the settings that were valid when the sampler was turned on. However, the current communications link setting is maintained and manual user interaction is not required.

StandbyValvePurge

Time the sample and vent valves are switched during standby mode to purge the system.

*.Nominal

Sets the time the valves open.

*.Value

Reports the current standby valve purge time (read-only).

TempEquilibrationTime

The time the sampler waits after the specified temperatures have been reached before it switches into the Ready state.

TimeRemainingInOven01 -TimeRemainingInOven12

Reports the number of minutes until the vial in the specified oven location will be ready for injection (read-only).

TransferLineTemp

Temperature of the transfer line to the GC

*.Nominal

Sets the nominal transfer line temperature.

*.Value

Reports the current transfer line temperature (read-only)

TrayLifterPosition

Switches the tray lifter position.

*.Nominal

Allows you to manually set the tray lifter movement  (UP or DOWN):

DOWN: Lowers the lifter to move the sample down into the oven.

UP: Raises the lifter to return the sample into the tray.

*.Value

Reports the current tray lifter position and status (read-only).

TrayPosition

Moves the tray to a selected loading position..

*.Nominal

Allows you to manually set the injection position (1-70) to which the tray is moved when TrayPosition is executed.

*.Value

Reports the current tray position (read-only).

ValveCount

Counts the number of valve movements (read-only).

VentValvePosition

Switches the vent valve position .

*.Nominal

Allows you to manually set the nominal vent valve position (CLOSED or OPEN).

*.Value

Reports the current vent valve position and status (read-only).

VialEquilibrationTime

Sets the time that the vial remains in the oven at the predefined temperature.

VialInOven01 - VialInOven12

Reports the current number of the vial (01-70) in the specified carousel location (01-12) in the oven (read-only). 0 if the location is empty.

VialPressure

Reports the current vapor pressure of the vial (read-only).

VialSize

Sets the volume [mL] of the vials used.
