Commands and Tips for Third-Party Devices
Agilent LC System Commands (ICF)

The following commands and properties are available for the LC systems that are integrated in the Agilent Instrument Control Framework (ICF). Please note that the display Filter level determines which commands and properties are displayed.

General Commands and Properties

Property

Description

DriverVersion

Reports the driver version.

Firmware

Indicates the firmware version of the module.

ICFVersion

Reports the version of the Agilent Instrument Control Framework that is currently installed.

ModelNo

Reports the model number.

Command

Description

Connect

Connects the instrument.

Connected

Indicates whether the instrument is connected to Chromeleon, that is, under computer control (also, see Connect, Disconnect, ConnectionState).

When connected, communication via TCP/IP between the IPC and the Agilent module that provides the LAN interface (typically, the detector) has been established successfully.

If the connection fails, check Instrument LAN setup, TCP/IP settings, and the Ethernet cabling.

Disconnect

Disconnects the instrument.

LCSystemDevice Commands and Properties

Name

Description

AbortRun

Aborts a run on the instrument.

ConnectionState

Indicates whether the CAN connection between the individual modules and the module that provides the LAN interface is established (Online) or not (Offline).

To determine the ConnectionState, the instrument must first be connected to Chromeleon (also, see Connected).

If ConnectionState remains Offline, make sure that:

  • all modules are powered up,

  • all modules are connected correctly via CAN cables and

  • your configuration matches the actual instrument setup.

ErrorState

Indicates an error on a module.

InjectionMode

Specifies the injection type.

Standard: Select, if an Agilent autosampler is used. In this case, you can configure the behavior of the instrument if a missing vessel is detected:

  • In the Agilent Instrument Status window, right-click and click Control.

  • Select the Ignore missing vessel check box to continue the run if a vessel is missing. In this case the Agilent system continues with a six-second dummy run. In Chromeleon, the sample continues to the end and the Status is set to Finished; however data acquisition is interrupted after ~six seconds. A "missing vial" message is logged in the Audit Trail. For further help, please contact Agilent.

  • If the Ignore missing vessel check box is cleared, the batch is aborted.

External: Select, if an external autosampler is used for injection.

Note:

An external autosampler can only be used if the sampler supports inject synchronization using a remote cable (such as the CTC PAL and UltiMate 3000 WPS autosamplers).

For details on pin assignment for the remote cable, refer to  Agilent Remote Cable (ICF).

IsInitializedForRun

Reports whether the initialization of the instrument is completed (Yes) or not (No).

IsReadyForInjection

Reports whether the device is ready for injection (Yes, No).

Mode

Specifies the run mode.

Default: The method runs for the specified time. After the run, initial operating conditions of the instrument are restored.

Preview: The method runs for an unlimited period. To stop the run, specify a stop time using the AbortRun command.

Shutdown: Shuts down the instrument at the end of the run.

Overlapping

Enables or disables overlapped sample runs. To run overlapped samples, the setting for Overlapping in the Chromeleon PGM must be set to Enabled. Also, all samples in the sequence must use the same method.

When the property is set to Enabled, Chromeleon provides position and volume information for the current and the next sample to the ICF and locks all samples of the current sequence. The property can either be set via a Chromeleon panel or as part of the Chromeleon PGM. Depending on the sampler that is being used, Agilent methods may contain additional settings that control whether the sampler performs optimizations in case samples are run overlapped. Whether ICF actually uses the values provided by Chromeleon depends on these method settings.

RunState

Reports the state of the module or the action that is currently being performed (Idle, Standby, Prerun, Injecting, Run or Postrun).

Ready

Reports whether the device is ready to operate (NotReady, Ready). The device is ready if the following conditions are fulfilled:

ConnectionState=Online, ErrorState=NoError, RunState=Idle, ReadyState=Ready, IsInitializedForRun=Yes and IsReadyForInjection=Yes

ReadyState

Indicates whether all modules are ready for operation (NotReady, Ready).

TurnOn /

TurnOff

Use this property to turn the entire system or an individual module on or off via Chromeleon.

Note:

It is also possible to turn the system or an individual module on or off using the respective buttons on the Agilent Status UI.

VolumeSpecification

Determine the source from where  the injection volume should be read.

VolumeAsMethod: Select, if the specified volume should be read from the Agilent method.

VolumeFromSampleTable: Select, if the specified volume should be read from the Chromeleon sample table. Also see information under Volume below.

Sampler Device Commands and Properties

Name

Description

Inject

Injects a sample.

Note:

To allow processing of Blank samples, it is required to set the Inject's Blank property to Inject (applies to InjectionMode=Standard only).

Position

Indicates the position of the sample on the sample tray:

Vial:1, Vial:2...Vial:220;

P1:A1...P1:P24, P2:A1...P2:P24

The position must be specified in the sample table. You cannot define the position in the Agilent method or in the Chromeleon PGM.

Volume

Specifies the injection volume.

You have to determine from where the specified volume should be read, also see  VolumeSpecification above.

Channel Device Commands and Properties

Name

Description

AutoAdaptToDataRate

If this property is missing or set to None for the selected 2D channel, then the Step property for determining the time interval between two consecutive data points is set to Auto. Also refer to Step (Reference Information).
