Restrictions:

 

  • Varian CP-3800 GCs with firmware prior to version 7.0 (ROM 3.3.5b) are not supported.

  • The driver does not support analog data acquisition.

  • Chromeleon does not support the CP-3800 GC without control panel.

  • Chromeleon does not support the Methanizer and Transfer Line options.

  • It is not possible to ignite the flame of the FID via Chromeleon. In addition, Chromeleon cannot verify the flame status. If the flame is extinguished while Chromeleon controls the instrument, a warning is logged in the Audit Trail.

 

What is required?

Timebase Class 1

Connection:

A free 10Base2 Ethernet port and the following items are required:

  • 3800 GC Communications Board (Varian part no. 392580401 + 3800 ROM Firmware: Varian part no. 392504901)

  • 10Base2 Ethernet Cable (NIC) (This cable is a coaxial Ethernet cable, not the common twisted-pair cable)

  • In addition, two BNC tee connectors are required. If no other devices are connected to the Ethernet, two BNC terminators are required.

Software
Prerequisites:

No BootP server is required.

Control Panel:

To control the instrument, use the Varian3800.pan from the
Dionex Templates\Panels\LC_Other
folder in the Browser.

 

Hardware Installation

Device Connection:

PC Ethernet NIC: For maximum reliability, Dionex recommends connecting the Varian CP-3800 GC to the instrument LAN (not to the office LAN). You have to install an additional Ethernet network interface card in your PC. Use the TCP/IP protocol; do not use any other protocol, such as, IPX/SPX.

Device Settings:

For the TCP/IP control settings of the Varian CP-3800 GC, refer to  TCP/IP Control: Settings on the Varian CP-3800 GC.

Restrictions:

The Varian CP-3800 GC does not support locking the keyboard; manual input is still possible. Do not enter any commands via the keyboard if you control the GC via Chromeleon.

 

Software Installation

For details about how to add timebases and device drivers to the Server Configuration, refer to Adding, Configuring or Deleting Devices. When you add a driver to the timebase, the configuration dialog or wizard opens automatically. For information about the settings, click the Help button on a page or press F1.
