Installing Thermo Scientific Devices
TRACE 1300 Series GC: Dual Operation

The TRACE 1300 Series GC supports gemini mode, which lets you simultaneously inject two samples from different sample positions, thus doubling the sample throughput. Make sure that the following conditions are met:

What is required?

License:

  • Timebase Class 1 License

  • Server License
(Although the GC is installed in two timebases as a shared device, only one license is required.)

Devices:

One TRACE 1300 Series GC

Autosamplers:

Up to two autosamplers supporting dual operation:

Columns:

Two

Inlets:

Front and back inlet

Detectors:

Front and back detector

Installation in the Server Configuration

For information about the program, refer to Software Installation and Communication  The Server Configuration Program.

To install and configure the TRACE 1300 Series GC for dual operation, follow the steps below:

  1. Create two timebases, e.g., TRACE_Front and TRACE_Back.

  2. Install the GC in one timebase, e.g., TRACE_Front.

  3. On the Timebase tab page, specify the timebases between which the GC is to be shared. Click the arrow and select a timebase from the list. For example, keep TRACE_Front as the Front Timebase and set the Back Timebase to TRACE_Back.

  4. Install an autosampler on each timebase, for example, a TriPlus RSH. (Note: For this application you need an autosampler that allows simultaneous injections into two inlets of a GC.)

  5. Configure the autosampler on both timebases: Open the configuration tab pages of the device. Click the arrow next to Instruments and select Main for the autosampler on the first timebase, select Virtual (Secondary) for the autosampler on the second timebase.

The configuration could look as follows:

 Tip:

Assign identical names to the Front and Back devices if you are using the same device type. In this case, you can use the same program on both timebases and need to adapt only the column name. For example, you can use the following names:

Front Inlet = Back Inlet = Inlet

Front Injector = Back Injector = Injector

Front Detector = Back Detector = Detector
