Hardware Installation

Device Connection:

Use a null modem cable (see  Null Modem Cable in the Appendix of the Hardware Installation section) to connect the Soma 3710 UV detector. Use the 25-pin RS-232 terminal on the detector.

Device Settings:

The communication parameters must be as follows: 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, and no handshake.

Before connecting, set the device manually into the Remote state. Press the Remote key until the green Remote lamp is active on the detector. The detector will remember this state when being turned off.

Software Installation

Install the Device Driver in the Chromeleon Server Configuration. (For more information about the program, refer to Software Installation and Communication  The Server Configuration Program.)

  1. Start the Chromeleon server.

  2. Start the Server Configuration program.

  3. Add the detector to the timebase. Select Add Device on the Edit or context menu, and then select Soma from the Manufacturers list box and Soma_UV-Vis_Detector_S-3710_178 (up to firmware version 1.78) or Soma_UV-Vis_Detector_S-3710_New (from firmware version 1.79) from the Devices list box.

  4. The following settings are required:

On the Soma_UV-VIS_Detector_S-3710_178 tab page (Soma_UV-VIS_Detector_S-3710_New tab page, respectively), disable the Demo Mode.

On the UV tab page, enter a name for the UV detector. In addition, select a free COM port to which the detector is connected and define the channel for data acquisition.

The Error Levels tab page classifies the severity of any errors that occur. It is generally not necessary to change the default settings.
