Hardware Installation

Device Connection:

Connect the sampler to the PC, using a null modem cable with 9-pin connector (Dionex part no. 1310.2263, see  Null Modem Cable in the Appendix of the Hardware Installation section).

Perkin Elmer provides different cables for connecting the sampler to a GC:

Autosystem (XL) and Clarus 500: Perkin Elmer part no. L427-0032

Agilent 5890/6890: Perkin Elmer part no. N610-0410

Other GCs: Perkin Elmer part no. N101-1206 (You may use this cable for the Autosystem (XL) and Clarus 500, also.)

 Note:

If you do not have the appropriate cable, verify that

  • The Ready In input (pins 9 and 12) is connected with the Ready Out signal on the GC and that

  • The Start N/O output (pins 5 and 6) is connected with the External Start input on the GC.

Device Settings:

Before installing the sampler in Chromeleon, verify that the following settings were made:

  • Open the Main display on the touch screen.

  • Select Tools > Preferences to open a dialog with several property pages.

  • On the Setup page, verify that Stop on vial error is deselected. (This option is not necessary because Chromeleon automatically detects vial errors and reacts accordingly.)

  • Set Priority Vials to None. Chromeleon does not support this option.

  • On the Run page, select Single Mode Operation and deselect with preselected method.

  • On the Connect page, verify that the baud rate is set to 9600 and that HandShake is set to None.

 Tip:

Dionex recommends selecting the pressure unit in such a way that the setting on the touch screen matches the setting in Chromeleon (set on the Options tab page in the Server Configuration program).

Restrictions:

Chromeleon does not support the following options:

  • Priority Vials

  • Analytic Trap
