Hardware Installation
Device Connection: |
Gilson 605 GSIOC RS-232 adapter cable. (For more information, refer to Gilson 605 GSIOC RS-232 Adapter Cable in the Appendix of the Hardware Installation section. The Gilson part number for the adapter cable is 360784192. The cable is not available from Dionex.) Tip: Control of the Gilson 206 Fraction Collector via the RS-232 interfaces of the PC (COM ports) or the UCI Universal Chromatography Interface is not supported. Always connect the Gilson 605 GSIOC RS-232 adapter cable to a multi-serial 8-fold PCI interface card (8-RS-232 Multi-COM card, Dionex part no. 5906.2095) instead. Note: Unlike the Gilson 201 and 202 Fraction Collectors, the Gilson 206 Fraction Collector uses a baud rate of 19200. Therefore, do not modify the Gilson 605GSIOC RS-232 adapter cable! |

Software Installation
Install the Device Driver in the Chromeleon Server Configuration. (For more information about the program, refer to Software Installation and Communication The Server Configuration Program.)
Start the Chromeleon server.
Start the Server Configuration program.
Add the fraction collector to the timebase. Select Add Device on the Edit or context menu, and then select Gilson from the Manufacturers list box and 206 Fraction Collector from the Devices list box.
The following settings are required:
On the General tab page, select a free COM port and enter the GSIOC address set on the instrument. (The address is displayed on the instrument's rear panel.)
On the Rack tab page, enter the number of the installed rack type.
On the Relays tab page, deselect all relays that are not used.
On the Inputs tab page, remove all inputs that are not available.
The Error Levels tab page classifies the severity of any errors that occur. It is generally not necessary to change the default settings.
In addition, Dionex recommends that you install the Fraction Collection driver. You do not need to change the settings on the General and Error Levels tab pages.
To control the Gilson 206 fraction collector, connect the Gilson206.pan Control Panel in the Chromeleon client to the corresponding timebase.
Application
After you turned on the instrument, first the model name and then the number of the currently used program are displayed on the instrument screen; for example, FILE NUMBER 3.
Tip:
The Connect command can be performed in Chromeleon only if the instrument is in Manual mode. The READY-HIT ADV. display and the lighting MAN. LED indicate that the instrument is currently in Manual mode and ready to operate. If this is not the case, the Gilson 201/202 program ... is not a manual program error message is logged in the Audit Trail. In this case, it is not possible to connect the instrument to Chromeleon.
