Hardware Installation

Device Connection:

First, install Chromeleon software, and then connect the detector to the USB port on the Chromeleon server PC. For detailed information about how to connect the system modules, refer to the detector's operating instructions.

USB Installation

For optimum performance, connect the detector to the Chromeleon server PC via USB (Universal Serial Bus). The USB installation is completely via the Chromeleon setup. The user is not required to take any other steps.

Also refer to Connecting Dionex Devices via USB.

 Caution:

Dionex recommends using the USB ports for connections to Dionex instruments only. Dionex cannot guarantee correct functioning if non-Dionex instruments are connected.

  Tip:

Before connecting the instrument for the first time, check the voltage selector for the correct line voltage setting. If necessary, change the setting and install the appropriate fuse as described in the operating instructions for the UVD 170S and UVD 340S Detectors.

LAN Installation

We generally recommend connecting the detector via USB  to the Chromeleon server PC. However, if this is not possible, a network connection (LAN) can be used for communication between the detector and Chromeleon.

For detailed information on LAN installation and recommendations on network operation please refer to the operating instructions for the UVD 170U/340U.

For additional  information on connecting the detector to a separate network interface card, refer to:

 Connecting Dionex Devices via TCP/IP

Connecting Dionex Devices via TCP/IP: Configuring Devices (CMIPUTIL)

 Caution:

Dionex cannot guarantee reliable communication when operating the detector on an office LAN because the load of the office LAN is a decisive factor. Overload of the office LAN may result in timeouts and loss of data and thus disturb automatic operation of Chromeleon. Therefore, we advise against operating the detector on an office LAN.

Software Installation

For details about how to add timebases and device drivers to the configurations, refer to Adding, Configuring or Deleting Devices. When you add a driver to the timebase, the configuration dialog or wizard opens automatically. For information about the settings, click the Help button on a page or press F1.
