Shodex Refractive Index Detectors (RI-101, RI-102, RI-104): Commands and Tips

The Shodex RI-101 Refractive Index Detector is available from Dionex as part of the Summit HPLC System whereas the RI-102 and RI-104 detectors are not. However, the commands listed below are also supported for the Shodex RI-102 and RI-104 detectors.

In addition to the commands available for various detector types, such as Step, Average, and Autozero (see  Dionex Detectors), the Shodex RI-101 Refractive Index Detector supports the following commands and properties (please note that the display Filter level determines which commands and properties are displayed):

Troubleshooting

Message: "A communication timeout occurred while waiting for device answer in TaskGetAquData".

Possible error cause:

  1. The error message indicates a communication error which occurs if the refractive index exceeds the maximum RI range. This error occurs with earlier firmware versions (1.09 and below).

    Solution:
Upgrade the firmware to 1.10 to solve the problem.

  1. The error occurs when running very long chromatograms (longer than 20 hours).

    Solution:
With digital data acquisition the length of an analysis (any one injection) is limited to about 20 hours. Longer runs may be interrupted with a "communication timeout" error. In this case use analog data acquisition, for example, by means of a UCI-100 interface.
