Commands and Tips for Thermo Scientific Devices
Thermo Finnigan Surveyor MSQ Mass Spectrometer
TIC, SIM, and MS Channel Properties and Commands
These channels are standard data channels with the following properties (please note that the display Filter level determines which properties are displayed):
Property |
Min |
Max |
|
Description |
- |
- |
MS_n only |
Starts and stops data acquisition. |
|
MinMass |
0.00 m/z |
2000.00 |
Read-only |
Minimum mass recorded in this trace. (SIM channels only) |
MaxMass |
0.00 m/z |
2000.00 |
Read-only |
Maximum mass recorded in this trace. (SIM channels only) |
Polarity |
Negative |
Positive |
Read-only |
Polarity |
SourceVoltage |
0 V |
200 V |
Read-only |
Maximum voltage. |
FilterIndex |
0: NoFilter |
n (dep. on installation): 9 (TIC/MS) 41 (SIM) |
Read-only |
Extraction filter. The filter corresponds to the filters defined in the MS method. For 0 = NoFilter, the TIC channel is used. |
n/a |
n/a |
Read-only |
Filter string as used in Thermo Finnigan MSQ method. |
|
BasePeakMode |
No |
Yes |
MS only |
Extracts Base Peak chromatograms during data acquisition |
- |
- |
Read-only |
Signal change (difference between the current value and the value one second before). |
Tip:
Support for data compression is not available. Thus, the Step, MaxAutoStop, and Average commands cannot be set. Manual data acquisition is not possible, either. In addition, acquisition is started at the time 0.000 and stopped at the end of the program for all channels that deliver data according to an MSQ method file. These channels do not appear in the Program Wizard or on the control panel.
Device Properties and Commands

Indicates whether the spectrometer is busy or idle. |
Status |
n/a |
|
Read-only |
Indicates the spectrometer's operational status. |
Range |
1 |
10 |
|
Scaling range used for online signal plot during data acquisition. (Can be set only before data acquisition starts.) |
None, Gaussian, Boxcar |
None |
|
Smoothing algorithm. Note: This parameter is used by Xcalibur raw data extraction during online and post-run channel extraction. |
|
SmoothingPoints |
3, 5, 7, 9, |
3 |
|
Number of data points used for smoothing. Note: This parameter is used by Xcalibur raw data extraction during online and post-run channel extraction. |
HardwareVersion |
n/a |
|
Read-only |
The mass spectrometer's hardware version. Note: This value is available only after the first raw data acquisition. |
FirmwareVersion |
n/a |
|
Read-only |
The spectrometer's firmware version. Note: This value is available only after the first raw data acquisition. |
AbortAcquisition |
|
|
|
Aborts the current Xcalibur acquisition and resets the MS. Use this command in a trigger command, for example: Trigger EndNow <condition> MS.AbortAcquisition; ends MS acq End; ends PGM and UV acq EndTrigger |
Command |
Description |
Connects the device |
|
Disconnect |
Disconnects the device |
Resets the device to the default values |
