Hardware Installation
Software Installation
For details about how to add timebases and device drivers to the Server Configuration, refer to Adding, Configuring or Deleting Devices. When you add a driver to the timebase, the configuration dialog or wizard opens automatically. For information about the settings, click the Help button on a page or press F1.
Device Settings
At first, control via the CBM-20A(lite) system controller has to be disabled for the SPD-M20A detector. This step is required to ensure that the PDA will not be listed in the group list of the CBM system.
Then specify the data acquisition settings. Data acquisition can either be started using an external signal or via Chromeleon (see instructions below).
Disable direct control of the SPD-M20A via the CBM-20A(lite)
To disable control of the PDA via the CBM-20A(lite), remove the PDA from the CBM's instrument group and assign the detector to a new group:
Turn on the detector.
Launch the Web browser on your PC.
Enter the IP address of the detector in the address field of the browser, for example, if the detector's IP address is 192.168.200.98, enter "http://192.168.200.98" in the address field.
When the Login screen is displayed, log in as administrator (User ID: "administrator", password: "pdaadmin").
On the Administrator Settings screen, in the Group Name box in the System information section, specify a new group name for the detector.
Click the Update button to enable your changes.
Exit the Web browser and turn off the instrument.
Then specify the settings for data acquisition:
Execute the steps described under "To start data acquisition using an external signal", if data acquisition is to be performed using an external signal.
–or–
Execute the steps described under "To start data acquisition using Chromeleon", if data acquisition is to be performed using Chromeleon.
For further details, also refer to the "223-00950D Quick Guide for Connection of CBM-20A(lite) and SPD-M20A" and the instruction manual for the detector which are provided by Shimadzu.
To start data acquisition using an external signal
Connect the signal cable provided by Shimadzu with the Start input port on the detector's rear panel (next to the dip switches, see user manual). Connect the other end of the signal cable to the HPLC system.
On the General page of the Chromeleon Server Configuration, select the Start with hardware signal check box.
To start data acquisition using Chromeleon
To allow control via Chromeleon, perform the following steps:
Remove the signal cable between the HPLC system and the Start input port of the detector.
On the General page of the Chromeleon Server Configuration, clear the Start with hardware signal check box.
Important:
The end of data acquisition is controlled via Chromeleon only and cannot be triggered by an external hardware signal. Therefore, do not connect the signal cable to the Stop input port of the detector.
Troubleshooting
To avoid connect errors between the server PC and the SPD M10Avp PDA detector:
Always turn on the detector first, and then turn on the PC.
When you turn the detector off and on again, reboot the server PC. Alternatively, open the Windows Device Manager, let the wizard search for new hardware and re-install the hardware. Otherwise, you will not be able to reconnect the M10Avp to Chromeleon using the Connect command.
Before you start the server, verify that both the SCSI Controller and the M10Avp are listed in the Windows Device Manager and that there is no error message for these devices.
Tip:
As an alternative, you could check the BIOS messages that appear before the operating system is booted to find out whether the PC has recognized the SCSI Controller and the connected instrument.
For a list of all error messages that might appear in Chromeleon, refer to the Error Levels tab page in the Server Configuration program.
