What is required?

Connection:

A free RS-232 port and the following cable are required:

  • Foxy Jr: Modem cable with 25-pin connector

  • Foxy R1: Modem cable with 9-pin connector

Hardware Installation

Device Connection:

Connect the Chromeleon PC to the RS-232 port on the fraction collector, using the modem cable.

Device Settings:

Operation with Chromeleon requires that the baud rate is set to 9600.

Foxy Jr:

  • Press the soft-key B (Config) until the Serial control = Off appears on the display.

  • Use the Select keys (C/D) to switch the mode on.

  • Press the Enter key (E).

  • Set the baud rate to 9600 using the Select keys (C/D) . Press the Enter key.

Foxy R1:

The baud rate is correctly set at the factory. To verify the baud rate setting, do the following:

  • Touch the RS-232 Serial Settings icon.

  • Verify the baud rate.

  • To save changes, if any, touch the Enter icon.

 

Software Installation

Install the Device Driver in the Chromeleon Server Configuration:

  1. Start the Chromeleon server.

  2. Start the Server Configuration program. (For more information about the program, refer to The Server Configuration Program.)

  3. Add the Foxy Jr/Foxy R1 Fraction Collector driver to the timebase. For details about how to add timebases and device drivers to the Server Configuration, refer to Adding, Configuring or Deleting Devices. When you add a driver to the timebase, the configuration dialog or wizard opens automatically. For information about the settings, click the Help button on a page or press F1.

  4. In addition, Thermo Fisher Scientific recommends that you install the Fraction Collection driver. You do not need to change the settings on the General and Error Level tab pages.

  5. To control the fraction collector, connect the FOXYJR.pan Control Panel in the Chromeleon client to the corresponding timebase.

 

Application

You can now control the instrument by the Connect/Disconnect, Tube (= position of the collection tube), and Valve (= switching between Collect and Waste) commands.
