What is required?

License:

Timebase Class 3

Select About Chromeleon on the Help menu of the Chromeleon client to check whether this license class is available.

Connection:

Required component for the Gilson 817, 819, and UVSM valves:

  • Gilson 605 GSIOC RS-232 adapter cable (For more information, refer to  Gilson 605 GSIOC RS-232 Adapter Cable. The Gilson part number for the adapter cable is 360784192. The cable is not available from Thermo Fisher Scientific.)

Required component for the ValveMate/ValveMate II:

  • Modem cable (Therm Scientific part no. 8914.0128 or 8914.0144A) (For more information, refer to  Modem Cable (1:1 Cable).)

Hardware
Prerequisites:

  • A multi-serial 8-fold PCI interface card (8-RS-232 Multi-COM card, Thermo Scientific part no. 5906.2095)

  • A free RS-232 port on the Multi-COM card. (Note: Connection via other RS-232 ports, e.g., the COM port of the UCI, is not possible.)

Control Panel

To control the instrument, use the Gilson_Valve.pan from the

Dionex Templates\Panels\LC_Other folder in the Browser.

Hardware Installation

Device Connection:

Use a  Modem Cable (Thermo Scientific part no. 8914.0128 for a 25-pin port or part no. 8914.0144A for a 9-pin port) to connect the Gilson ValveMate/ValveMate II. Do not use a null modem cable! (For cable details, refer to  Modem Cable (1:1 Cable).) Use a Gilson adapter cable 605 to connect the Gilson 817, 819, and UVSM valves from the GSIOC port to the PC.

 Note:

Contrary to most other Gilson devices, the Gilson valves use a baud rate of 19200. Therefore, do not modify the Gilson 605 GSIOC RS-232 adapter cable!

Further Information

For more installation details, refer to the manual for the instrument.

For an overview of the different Gilson instruments for which device drivers are available in Chromeleon, refer to  Gilson.

Application

The valve type 819 is an injection valve that is usually used with the Gilson 215 Liquid Handler only. In this case, the Gilson Valve Module driver is not required, as the Gilson 215 driver supports up to two 819 injection valves.

While the valve type 819 supports two valve positions only, the other types support two to ten valve positions.
