GPIB cable (Dionex part no.: 5919.0013; for more information, refer to GPIB IEEE 488 Bus Cable)
The device driver usually communicates with the HPLC system via a GPIB (IEEE) connection. This requires that a GPIB card be installed in the Chromeleon server PC and that the PC be connected with the HPLC system via a GPIB IEEE 488 Bus Cable. If the system includes a photodiode array detector, you should connect the instrument to the PC via the GPIB cable. (If the system does not include a photodiode array detector, connect one of the other detectors, preferably a UV detector.) Use CAN cables (Agilent part no. 5181-1519) to connect all other modules to the PDA (or the other detector).
Caution:
When connecting several instruments via a GPIB connection, connect them in series (not in a star structure) and turn on all instruments. Otherwise, communication problems may occur.
Caution:
To avoid communication problems, connect the HPLC system to the PC via the detector with the most data. If the system includes a diode array detector (DAD), connect the DAD to the PC. If the system does not include a DAD, the preferred order is as follows: fluorescence detector (FLD) > multiple wavelength UV detector (MWD) > variable wavelength UV detector (VWD) > refractive index detector (RID).
