Agilent 7890 GC: Instrument Synchronization

When operating the Agilent 7890 GC with an external autosampler, such as the G1888 Headspace Sampler, you need to synchronize the GC with the autosampler.

Synchronization can either be performed

Synchronization via Remote Start/Stop Cable

A Remote Start/Stop cable is required to connect the GC with the autosampler thus allowing synchronization. When using a G1888 Headspace sampler, the Remote cable is provided by Agilent.

To synchronize the 7890 GC with a G1888 Headspace Sampler

  1. Plug one end of the Remote cable into the Remote connector on the back panel of the GC. Connect the other end of the cable to the Remote port of the Headspace Sampler.

  2. On the Server Configuration page of the G1888 headspace sampler, set GC Handshake to WAIT_H. This enables communication with the GC ('handshake') and the headspace sampler waits for the GC's Ready signal.

To synchronize the 7890GC with a non-Agilent autosampler

Observe the following points, when operating a non-Agilent autosampler with the 7890 GC:

Pin

Signal

2

Prepare

3

Start

7

Tip:

When performing synchronization via a Remote cable, the Start signal of the external autosampler may interfere with the start of the retention time in Chromeleon. To ensure that the GC is started only after receiving the Start signal from the autosampler, set the property UseSoftwareStart to False.
