Agilent 6890/7890 GC: Dual Operation
The 6890 and 7890 GCs support dual operation. This lets you simultaneously inject two samples from different sample positions, thus doubling the sample throughput. Make sure that the following conditions are met:
What is required?
License: |
Timebase Class 1 License |
Devices: |
6890 GC 7890 (7890A, 7890A+ and 7890B GCs) |
Columns: |
Two |
Injectors: |
6890 GC: Front and back injector 7890 GC: Front and back injector or two gas sampling valves |
Inlets: |
Front and back inlet |
Detectors: |
Front and back detector Note: Usually, two identical columns, injectors, inlets, and detectors will be used. |
Installation in the Server Configuration
For information about the program, refer to Software Installation and Communication The Server Configuration Program.
To install and configure the 6890 GC for dual operation, follow the steps below:
Create two timebases, e.g., 6890_A and 6890_B.
Install the GC in one timebase, e.g., 6890_A.
On the Options tab page, specify the timebase settings:
Assign the Front Timebase and the Back Timebase. The default setting is the timebase in which the GC was installed initially. To change the setting, click the arrow and select a timebase from the list. For example, keep 6890_A as Front Timebase and set Back Timebase to 6890_B.
To install and configure the 7890 GC for dual operation, follow the steps below:
Create two timebases, e.g., 7890_A and 7890_B.
Install the GC in one timebase, e.g., 7890_A.
On the Timebase tab page, specify the timebase settings:
Assign the Front Timebase and the Back Timebase. The default setting is the timebase in which the GC was installed initially. To change the setting, click the arrow and select a timebase from the list. For example, keep 7890_A as Front Timebase and set Back Timebase to 7890_B.
In the table, click the arrow to assign each installed device to the appropriate timebase. By default, all devices listed in the table are assigned to the Front Timebase.
Note: Use the Valve tab page to assign gas sampling valves to the appropriate Front or Back Inlet. The main device, autosampler, injectors, inlets, oven, and multi position valve (if a gas sampling valve is installed) are assigned automatically to the correct timebase.
Tip:
Assign identical names to the Front and Back devices if you are using the same device type. In this case, you can use the same program on both timebases and need to adapt only the column name. For example, you can use the following names:
Front Inlet = Back Inlet = Inlet
Front Injector = Back Injector = Injector
Front Detector = Back Detector = Detector
