Hardware Installation
Device Connection:
|
First, install the Chromeleon software, and then connect the instrument to the RS232 port on the Chromeleon server PC.
Also refer to Connecting Devices via RS232.
During initial installation of the instrument, check the correct line voltage setting. If the setting is not appropriate for your local requirements, reset the voltage and install the appropriate fuse as described in the User's Manual.
RS232 ports
The FAMOS autosampler has two 9-pin RS232 ports. Usually, only the second port (S2, female) is used for data transmission from the PC. Connect the RS232 port to a free COM port on your PC.
DIP Switches
Some communication parameters are set via DIP switches located above the RS-232 ports. Verify that the DIP switch settings correspond to the default:

|
I/O ports
The FAMOS autosampler has six standard I/O ports (P1-P6) - five outputs and one input. For information about the different I/O port configurations, refer to the appendix to the User's Manual.
P5 AUXILIARIES Port
If the micro autosampler is installed with a Switchos II Advanced Micro Column Switching Unit and the UltiMate system, the position of the micro valves is controlled via the P5 port. Use the special Dionex/LC Packings interface cable (Dionex/LC Packings part no. SW-FMS-P5) to connect the P5 AUXILIARIES output to the Switchos II. Do not connect the remaining port of this cable to the UltiMate system.

Device Settings:
|
In Remote Mode only, the autosampler can be controlled via the RS-232 interface. To enable Remote Mode, press the <Menu> and <Serial> soft keys when starting the autosampler. Otherwise, it will not be possible to control the autosampler by Chromeleon.

Software Installation
For details about how to add timebases and device drivers to the Server Configuration, refer to Adding, Configuring or Deleting Devices. When you add a driver to the timebase, the configuration dialog or wizard opens automatically. For information about the settings, click the Help button on a page or press F1.
Troubleshooting
If an error occurs and an alarm sounds (AlarmBuzzer set to On), the autosampler will continue operation only by means of Power Off/Power On. Therefore, avoid using this command when you control the autosampler by Chromeleon.
To ensure that the autosampler is in Not Running mode, select Wait Sampler.Ready each time before executing one of the following commands: InjectMode, SampleHeight, SyringeSpeed, SyringeSpeedFactor, AirSegment, UseHeadSpace, RgtXVial, FirstTransportVial, and LastTransportVial. If you do not select Wait Sampler.Ready, a communication error will occur.
