Capacity Factor (k´)

Location:

Report Variable (Peak Results)

Default:

Use the current value from the peak table

Related Variables:

Retention Time; Dead Time

Description:

The peak result variable refers to the capacity factor (also called retention factor (Rf)), that is, to the ratio of the net retention time to the dead time.

Where

k'

= Capacity factor

tR

= Retention time

t0

= Dead time

The Dead Time may either be measured at the inert peak or calculated as the quotient of the dead volume and the flow rate. If the dead time is zero, k' is not calculated.

To achieve a reasonable compromise between the retention time and the required analysis time, k´ should be a value between 1 and 5.

Parameters:

In order for Chromeleon to calculate the Capacity Factor K`, the system dead time must be specified.

Dead Time

Enter the dead time (in Decimal Minutes) in the Dead time field. If you do not enter a dead time, the dead time entered on the  General tab page of the QNT Editor is used to calculate the capacity factor.
