Monitoring the Eluent Generator Cartridge Lifetime

Chromeleon monitors the lifetime status of the EluGen cartridge currently being used by the eluent generator and displays the information on the Control Panel and in the Chromeleon Server Configuration program.

The Remaining Lifetime (Ion Count) or Remaining Life (%) represents the percentage of the original ion capacity remaining in the cartridge. For analytical cartridges, the ion percentage is counted down in 1% increments and displayed in this field. For capillary cartridges, this field always displays N/A.

For both analytical and capillary cartridges: At 10%, Chromeleon logs a message each time a sequence that uses the cartridge starts. At 0%, Chromeleon displays a warning message that the ion count has been depleted; the cartridge must then be replaced before operation can be continued.

 Note:

If a pH modifier is installed, the Remaining Life field indicates how much the pH modifier has been used. The value starts at 0 and counts up with use. A count of 1 means the usage is approximately equal to the lifetime of one K2CO3 cartridge.

For analytical cartridges, the Expiration Date is 2 years from the date of manufacture. One month before expiration, Chromeleon logs a warning each time a sequence that uses the cartridge starts. Although you can continue to operate with the cartridge after the expiration date, performance may be impaired until a new cartridge is installed.

For capillary cartridges, the Expiration Date is 18 months from the date of activation (when the cartridge is first turned on). One month before expiration, Chromeleon logs a warning each time a sequence that uses the cartridge starts. You cannot continue to operate with the cartridge after the expiration date.

To view the cartridge lifetime status information from the Server Configuration program:

  1. In the Server Configuration program, select the EG40 or EG50 Eluent Generator, ICS-2000, or ICS-2100 that contains the eluent generator, or the ICS-3000 EG or ICS-5000 EG.

  2. Select Properties on the Edit menu.

  3. For an EG40 or EG50, select the Pump Link & Cartridge tab.

  4. For an ICS-2000 or ICS-2100, select the Eluent Generator tab.

  5. For an ICS-3000 EG or ICS-5000 EG, select the Cartridges tab.
