Controlling Devices from the Control Panel
Using and/or Recording Demo Data
Simulating Data Acquisition
Demo Mode (also called Virtual or Simulation Mode) lets you simulate data acquisition by loading a pre-recorded demo file. The demo file data is then "read back" and displayed on the Control Panel's signal plot as though the data were being acquired in real time.
Start the Server Configuration program, and then select a device (for example, a detector module or a system module) in the corresponding Timebase.
Select Properties on the Edit or context menu. On the General tab page, enable the Demo, Virtual, or Simulation mode (the name depends on the device) by selecting the corresponding check box or by selecting the Read option.
If the Read option was not present on the General tab page, do one of the following (depending on the type of detector):
Select the Demo Chromatogram tab and select Read demo chromatogram from.
Select the Detector tab and double-click the detector name. Select the Demo Chromatogram tab and select Read demo chromatogram from.
Select the Detector tab and double-click the detector name. Select the Simulation Data tab and select Read simulation data from.
Select a demo chromatogram or simulation data file from the list.
(Optional) Enable the Demo, Virtual, or Simulation mode for all other devices of the timebase on the corresponding General tab pages.
To run the simulation, open the control panel for the device, connect to the timebase, and then start data acquisition. The Data Acquisition dialog box appears.
If the simulation data contains more than one channel, select the channel(s) and click OK. The simulated data begins running. It runs continuously (repeats) until data acquisition is disabled.
Recording Demo (or Simulation) Data
To create a demo file for an installed detector, open the Properties dialog box for the detector in the Server Configuration.
Use one of the following methods to create the demo file (depending on the type of detector):
Select Write under Demo Mode or Virtual Mode on the General tab page.
Select Live Mode on the General tab page. Then, select the Demo Chromatogram (or Simulation Data) tab and select Write demo chromatogram to (or Write simulation data to).
Select Live Mode on the General tab page. Select the Detector tab and double-click the detector name. Select the Demo Chromatogram (or Simulation Data) tab and select Write demo chromatogram to (or Write simulation data to).
Enter a name for the file or select a name from the list. If the device is connected via the Dionex DX-LAN, select the Device ID under Communication.
To record the demo file, open the control panel for the device and start data acquisition. The data acquired from the detector is recorded in the demo file.
To stop recording data, disable data acquisition. The demo file is then complete. Alternatively, instead of starting and stopping data acquisition manually, you can run a PGM File that turns acquisition on and off.
