What is required?

License:

Timebase Class 2

Connection:

GPIB Bus cable (Dionex part no.: 5919.0013).

The device driver communicates with the HPLC system via a GPIB (IEEE) connection. This requires that a GPIB interface card or GPIB/USB adapter be installed in the Chromeleon server PC and that the PC be connected with the HPLC system via a GPIB IEEE 488 Bus Cable. For more information refer to  GPIB IEEE 488 Bus Cable.

Hardware Requirements:

GPIB interface card or GPIB/USB adapter

Software Requirements:

When a GPIB/IEEE connection is used, the corresponding VISA library (≤ version 14.0) must be installed.

Tip:

The Libraries Suite is usually shipped with the GPIB interface; upgrades for the Agilent interfaces can be downloaded free of charge from the Agilent website).

Firmware Requirements:

The driver was tested for pumps with 100 µl pump head, firmware version 4.2.

Hardware Installation

Device Connection:

GPIB IEEE 488 Bus Cable (Dionex part no. 5919.0013).

 Caution:

When connecting several devices or systems via GPIB, connect them in series (not in a star structure) and turn all devices on. Otherwise, communication problems may occur.

Device Settings:

To enable communication with Chromeleon, the controller must be configured as Gradient Controller.

To configure the Gradient Controller proceed as follows:

  1. Press the Setup button at the front keypad to display the PUMP SETUP screen:

  1. Press the PUMP CONFIG screen key to display the PUMP CONFIGURATION screen:

  2. Check the UNIT TYPE field. If the TYPE field contains:

  3. W600E Gradient Controller - no changes required, press CANCEL to quit the Pump Configuration screen.

  4. W600E PowerLine Controller - proceed to step 4.

  1. Use the Up/Down keys to move the cursor to the UNIT TYPE field.

  2. Type 0 to select the Gradient Controller configuration and press CONFIGURE to save the change. The controller reboots and returns to the Powerup screen.

  Tip:

You may also consult the PUMP CONFIGURATION screen to view the pump head volume and IEEE-488 address. These data are required when you configure the pump driver in the Server Configuration .

Restrictions:

Thermo Fisher Scientific recommends not using Waters devices and Agilent HP 1100 Systems on the same GPIB card.
