Note: The following detector models are compatible with each other:

380-LC ELSD <-> Varian Polymer Laboratories ELS 2100,

385-LC ELSD <-> Varian Polymer Laboratories ELS 2100 Ice

Restrictions:

The device driver does not support the "Real-time control" option.

 

What is required?

Connection:

A free RS232 port and the following items are required:

  • Modem Cable (Dionex part no. 8914.0143) shipped with the detector

  • A nitrogen or compressed air connection on the PC as specified in the Operating Instructions.

Firmware
Prerequisites:

The driver works with the following Firmware versions:

  • 22.02.00 and later

  • and up to 23.00.00

Firmware
Limitations:

  • Starting with firmware version 24.00.00, the module supports 80 Hz data acquisition

  • Starting with firmware version 24.03.00, the module supports hardware inject synchronization

 Note:

Modules with firmware versions above 23.00.00 can be operated using the 38x-LC ELS Detector driver with the following limitations:

  • Hardware inject synchronization is not supported by the Chromeleon driver. Please remove all related cabling.

  • 10 Hz and 80 Hz data collection rates are not supported by the Chromeleon driver. Please manually set the detector to 40 Hz using the detector's keypad.

Since the Varian 38x-LC ELS Detector is now sold under the Agilent brand, please contact Agilent for information about an available ICF-based driver if you require one of the above features.

Control Panel:

To control the instrument, use the Varian_ELSD.pan from the
Dionex Templates\Panels\LC_Other
folder in the Browser.

 

Hardware Installation

Device Connection:

  1. First, install Chromeleon software, and then connect the instrument to the RS232 port on the Chromeleon server PC.

  2. Connect the 380-LC/385-LC ELSD to the PC using a modem cable.

    Also refer to Connecting Devices via RS232.

  1. During initial installation, check that the line voltage setting is appropriate for your local requirements.

  2. Ensure a safe gas supply and flow as specified in the Operating Instructions.

Device Settings:

Check that the DIP switch on the detector's rear panel is in the Run position.

Restrictions:

Control via UCI 100/50 COM ports is not supported.

 

Software Installation

For details about how to add timebases and device drivers to the Server Configuration, refer to Adding, Configuring or Deleting Devices. When you add a driver to the timebase, the configuration dialog or wizard opens automatically. For information about the settings, click the Help button on a page or press F1.
