Useful Tips for Installing Dongles
If a problem occurs during installation of a dongle (WIBU-KEY or Aladdin Hardlock), it may be due to the BIOS settings of your PC. Check and correct these settings, if necessary:
Follow the description in your PC manual to access the BIOS. (You can usually access the BIOS by pressing the F2 or Del key on the keyboard while the PC is booting.)
In the BIOS, select the parallel printer port on which the dongle is installed. (This is usually the LPT1 port.)
If necessary, change the setting from Auto to EPP or EPC.
Save your changes and reboot the PC.
Afterward, follow the steps below:
Open the Chromeleon client. Follow the description in Entering the Software License. Under Copy Protection Location, select Dongle.
Enter the Key Code again and click OK.
Start the Chromeleon server via the Chromeleon Server Monitor program, if necessary.
Tip:
To start the server manually, you must belong to the Chromeleon Operators Group.
Troubleshooting for the WIBU-KEY Dongles
It may take some minutes until Chromeleon recognizes the WIBU-KEY dongle and disables Evaluation Mode. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager to check whether your PC recognizes the WIBU-KEY dongle. If the dongle is recognized, the WIBU-KEY Software Protection entry is listed. If the dongle is not recognized, check whether the (green) WIBU-KEY dongle is installed correctly.
If the system remains in Evaluation Mode after you have entered the key code, even though the Device Manager lists the dongle:
Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > WIBU-KEY to open the WIBU-Key panel. On the Contents tab page, verify that the dongle is listed under either Desktop\My Computer\ USB\x-xxxxxxx or Desktop\My Computer\LPT1\x-xxxxxxx.
The dongle is not recognized if:
An LPT dongle is installed on a COM port instead of an LPT port.
Check whether the following entries are available on the right:
First line: 250266 : 400
Second line, second field from the right: serial number
If one of these numbers is incorrect, contact Dionex Service.
Notes:
The Aladdin Hardlock software is not described here because the software does not provide a user interface.
Hardlock dongles are not supported by Windows 64-bit operating systems.
