Maximum Concentration Ranges for Eluent Generators
Refer to the appropriate section below for the allowable concentration ranges for each eluent generator type and cartridge configuration.
EG40 or EG50 Eluent Generator
The EG40 or EG50 can generate eluent concentrations from 0.1 to 100 mM. The maximum concentration (X) depends on the pump flow rate and is calculated as:
0.1 to 100 mM at 0.1 to 1.0 ml/min
0.1 to X mM at 1.0 to 3.0 ml/min
where X mM = 100/Flow Rate in ml/min
Single-Cartridge Configuration or Independent Dual-Cartridge Configuration
In the single-cartridge configuration, one eluent generator cartridge (EGC) is installed in the system. In the independent dual-cartridge configuration, two EGCs are installed in the system (not available for all sysems). In this configuration, each EGC is linked to a different pump and operated independently. The following table indicates the allowable concentration range for each cartridge in a single-cartridge or independent dual-cartridge configuration.
Cartridge Type |
Eluent Concentration Range |
K2CO3 |
0.1 to 15 mM at 0.1 to 1.0 ml/min |
KOH |
0.1 to 100 mM at 0.1 to 1.0 ml/min |
KOH (Capillary) |
0.1 to 200 mM at 0.001 to 0.01 ml/min |
LiOH |
0.1 to 80 mM at 0.1 to 1.0 ml/min |
MSA |
0.1 to 100 mM at 0.1 to 1.0 ml/min |
MSA (Capillary) |
0.1 to 200 mM at 0.001 to 0.01 ml/min |
NaOH |
0.1 to 100 mM at 0.1 to 1.0 ml/min |
Electrolytic pH Modifier |
Not applicable; the Electrolytic pH Modifier is available for selection only in the linked dual-cartridge configuration. |
Linked Dual-Cartridge Configuration
In the linked dual-cartridge configuration, the system (ICS-2000, ICS-2100, ICS-3000 EG, or ICS-5000 EG) contains two eluent generator cartridges that work together. To set up the eluent generator for this configuration, link both cartridges to a single pump. The allowable concentration for each linked cartridge is less than when the cartridge is defined as independent. The following table indicates the allowable total concentration for each cartridge in this configuration.

Eluent Concentration Range |
Comment |
K2CO3/Electrolytic pH Modifier |
0.1 to 15 mM at 0.1 to 1.0 ml/min |
For a carbonate/bicarbonate mixture, set the K2CO3 cartridge to the desired carbonate concentration and set the pH Modifier to the desired bicarbonate concentration. The combined eluent concentrations for both cartridges must not exceed the specified range. In addition, the Electrolytic pH Modifier’s eluent concentration must not exceed 10 mM. The K2CO3 cartridge generates potassium carbonate eluent equal to the combined concentrations specified for carbonate and bicarbonate. The potassium carbonate eluent is then modified to achieve the desired carbonate/bicarbonate mixture. |
KOH/KOH |
0.1 to 50 mM at 0.1 to 1.0 ml/min |
The eluent concentration range for each cartridge is cut by 50%. |
KOH (Capillary)MSA (Capillary) |
0.1 to 100 mM at 0.001 to 0.01 ml/min |
|
LiOH/LiOH |
0.1 to 40 mM at 0.1 to 1.0 ml/min |
The eluent concentration range for each cartridge is cut by 50%. |
Electrolytic pH Modifier/Electrolytic pH Modifier |
0.1 to 10 mM at 0.1 to 1.0 ml/min |
The Electrolytic pH Modifier concentration remains at 10 mM. |
