Diagnostics (UltiMate 3000 Series)
Gas Sensor Test

Run this test to check the condition of the gas sensor of the thermostatted column compartment (TCC-3x00 or FLM-3x00).

Required materials and preparatory measures

To run this test, you need 0.5 ml isopropyl alcohol and a 12 ml syringe.

Note:

Free solvent vapors may influence the test and lead to inaccurate test results. Therefore, verify that any solvent bottles in the vicinity of the column compartment are firmly closed and that all solvents and gases have been removed from the column compartment.

How to

  1. On the first test page, click Next> to proceed with the settings required for the test.

     Tip:

If the Next> button is not active on the first test page, the column compartment is not connected in Chromeleon or is in Standby mode. Connect the column compartment to Chromeleon before you continue by selecting the Connected check box. If the column compartment is in Standby mode, also clear the Standby check box.

  2. Optional: Enter a descriptive text in the Comments field, e.g., the reason why the test is performed.

  3. Prepare the column compartment:

    Open the front panel door.

  4. Clicking Next> takes you to the next test step. The test starts with an equilibration of the column compartment. This will take about a minute. During equilibration, the fan removes any solvent vapors from the column compartment.

    1. Close the front panel door. The column oven is heated to a temperature of approx. 40°C.
    2. Fill a syringe with 0.5 ml isopropyl alcohol. Then draw 11.5 ml air into the syringe. Shake the syringe to build up a saturated vapor phase.

    3. Inject the gas (but not the liquid!) into the closed column oven by carefully inserting the syringe into the compartment next to the seal (as shown on the control panel). Make sure not to damage the seal with the syringe!

  5. Click Done. The gas sensor should start detection of the isopropanol gas.

  6. When the test phase has finished, open the front panel door and close it again to reset the sensor. Click Next> to go to the next page to view the test results.

  7. To view or print the report with details of the analysis, click Finish and Preview Report. Click Finish to quit the test panel without viewing the report. For information about troubleshooting, click Open Troubleshooting Guide.
