RS232 Input Port
Installing the RS232 Input Port Driver
The RS-232 input port driver provides an additional digital input, which may be used to:
Configure other drivers (e.g. a remote inject driver) to use this input
Use the State property of this driver in a PGM (e.g. for triggers).
If more digital inputs are required, please consider purchasing the Thermo Scientific A2D.
The driver provides a high level on pin 7. Therefore the state of a relay can be captured by connecting it to pin 7 and pin 8 of the RS-232 port (for a 9-pin D-Sub connector). In this case, configure the driver to use Clear to Send as the Signal Type. For more elaborate wiring, please consult an electrical engineer.
A typical application is when DCMSLink for Xcalibur is used with the External Autosampler option. The autosampler Inject Out relay must be used for proper inject synchronization. For more information see DCMSLink for Xcalibur Help > How to > Xcalibur: Managing Autosamplers Controlled by Xcalibur.
Tip:
If your PC has no RS-232 port, you can use the RS-232 USB Interface Cable (Dionex part no. 6073.2000).
Software Installation
For installing the RS-232 input port proceed as follows:
In the Chromeleon Server Configuration dialog, select the timebase you want to add the RS232 Input Port Driver to.
Click Add Device. The Add device to timebase dialog opens.
In the Manufacturers list
select Generic, then in the
Devices list select RS232 Input Port.
Click OK.
When you add the driver, the configuration dialog for the RS232 Input
Port opens automatically.
Select the COM port you wish to use
Specify the required signal
settings. Refer to the table below for information about the signal
types and pin assignments for a 9-pin D-sub connector.
For information about the settings in RS232 Port Input Configuration
dialog, click Help or press
F1.
Click OK to close the RS232 Input Port Configuration dialog and save the settings.

The RS232 Input Port driver will detect a ”true” input when the control signal (CTS, DSR, or CD) is driven to the same level (or when a contact closure applied) as RTS. Use these signal types for inject synchronization and for any other signaling purposes, fr example, for triggers. |
