Connecting Devices to the Chromeleon Server PC
Using the USB Auto Configuration Wizard
If the USB Auto Configuration Wizard appears, Chromeleon has detected a USB (Universal Serial Bus) device that is not assigned to a timebase. When the wizard appears, you have two options:
Use the wizard to create a new timebase, and then assign the USB device to this timebase.
Close the wizard and use the Chromeleon Server Configuration program to assign the device to an existing timebase.
Note:
Under certain conditions, the wizard will appear but you will not be allowed to complete the configuration; for example, if the server is active (processing samples, etc.), the server connection is not successful, or you do not have the access rights to configure the system.
To create a new timebase for an unassigned USB device:
When the USB Auto Configuration Wizard is launched, select the following option:
Create a new timebase
Click OK.
The Auto Configuration dialog box opens.
If the Unassigned USB Devices Detected window displays the name of a device that you do not want to configure now, clear the check mark before the device name.
In the Mode window, select a pre-defined configuration template for the new timebase.
A summary of the selected template appears under Description.
(Optional) Select the Launch Server Configuration upon closing this wizard check box.
The check box is disabled if the Server Configuration program is already running.
(Optional) Select the Customize timebase names (For advanced users only) check box.
To create a new timebase, click Accept.
To exit the wizard without creating a timebase, click Cancel. The USB devices cannot be used until you manually configure them in the Server Configuration.
If Customize timebase names is selected, the Change Timebase Names dialog box appears now. Enter the new timebase names(s) and click the Use Custom Names button. (To cancel the process, click the Use Default Names button.)
Note:
Selecting a timebase name already in use on another server can cause unpredictable behavior.
If Launch Server Configuration upon accepting configuration is selected, the Server Configuration automatically starts running when the wizard is closed. If the Server Configuration was already running, it is updated with the new configuration information.
To add an unassigned USB device to an existing timebase:
When the USB Auto Configuration Wizard is launched, select the following option:
Add device to an existing timebase
Click OK.
The Server Configuration is launched. For more information about the program, refer to Software Installation and Communication The Server Configuration Program.
