Tab Dialog Box:
Geometry (Gilson XL Series)

The autosampler can move to any coordinate. It is therefore possible to use any sample tray, including special customized trays. To enable this flexibility, the driver uses the vial dimensions and coordinates of the Tray file.

Tray file name:

Select a tray file; for example, 231XL00.gty.

Work Area Size:

Select Small, Large, or Custom, depending on whether you wish to work with a large or a small work area, or whether you wish to enter the exact coordinates. In this case, select Custom and enter the coordinates under X, Y, and Z (needle height).

Dionex supplies several Tray files for common sample trays (for the sample numbering see  Gilson XL-Series (Autosamplers 221XL, 222XL, 231XL to 235XL, ASPEC XL)):

For other tray types, for the large instruments (Gilson 222XL, 232XL, or 233XL samplers), or any other special requirements, you must create your own Tray File. The Tray Editor of the Gilson 709 software is available from Gilson

Use this editor to define the layout of the sample tray, the zone names, and the vial numbering. The vials from which to inject should all be located in the first zone. Assign a name to this zone; for example, Samples.

Click Relax on the panel and move the autosampler arm to find the corresponding coordinate.

You can define further zones; for example, for fraction collection or sample preparation. Please note that the driver for zone names only supports the letters A-Z (no special characters), number, and the characters % and _. If you enter other characters in the Tray Editor, these will be replaced by _.

Save the result, for example, in \Chromel\bin\MyTray.gty.

 Caution:

With the ASPEC XL autosampler, the Z coordinates vary, depending on the needle type used. Check the settings, using a non-fixed needle, before using the ASPEC XL for standard operation. Incorrect settings may damage the ASPEC XL hardware. The following needle has been tested: Constricting needle, 183 mm stroke (Gilson reference nos. 460969 and 460973) (needle length 220 mm). When you use this needle for the ASPECXL.gty tray file, enter 183.0 mm for the Z coordinate and select Large for the Work Area Size.
